Deeply evocative (1995 NYC as experienced by bored teens) soundtrack for Harmony Korine and Larry Clark's decade-defining and quite devastating teenage ballad.

For some, the interest of Kids's soundtrack might reside in the fact that it includes exclusive songs from the likes of Daniel Johnston or Lou Barlow, but that wouldn't really matter to me if it wasn't for the absolute consistency of the record's tracklist, seamlessly navigating through east coast hip hop (that great song from this super obscure rap act, Lo-Down) scrawny lo-fi rock and strangely proto-BOC ambient tunes, working in a way that is completely autonomous from the film.

It feels like listening to an NTS show from the mid-1990's, as it exhales a strong feel of art direction (not sure whether Harmony Korine had something to do with the soundtrack, but it sure sounds like he did), broad and so strongly coherent, in a way that reminds me of the Sopranos' soundtrack. Far from being some sort of collectable item for Supreme-obsessed, Chloé Sevigny-loving person (well, to be honest, it is), it's a time-capsule from an incredibly creative and, let's say it, stylish period in the history of NYC's counterculture. Beautiful copy, still in shrink (VG+/VG+)
