Though a secular tradition, the release of a full LP of dub mixes is not such a common thing these days. With his HWYUIOD partner at the controls, Shelter, Tom Val offers 9 rumbling and murky numbers, radically remodeling material previously released as Orion Music Workshop. Undergoing a much more transformative treatment than that applied to Massive Attack's Protection by Mad Professor, Shelter's mixes take cues from Adrian Sherwood, Keith Leblanc & Mark Stewart, reteritorializing 1980's London punk ethos in small continental Europe basements and underground venues, and eventually further stripping away dub's caribeaness. 

Orion Music Versions marks the end of a very important year for the label, the fourth in a series of brilliant releases (Krakatoa, Bruits de l'Ombre, The Window, and now this one) that gave to hear Tom's & his friends' joyously free interpretations of an exponentially growing range of influences (Actuel and Futura's free jazz, Can, Moebius and Cluster's Kraut and Bristol's turn-of-the-century post-rock, to label just the tip of the iceberg). A pure DIY affair that doesn't embarrass itself with trends, swiftly switching musical territories with each release, reconnecting underground (micro)worlds that have been drifting appart over the past 15 years, and thus recalling the vertiginous freedom of tone of defunct record shops / bric-à-brac that were Volcanic Tongue or Bimbo Tower. On a personal note, Orion Music Versions also marks a fruitful year of collaboration, as it's now been a year since Tom started working at Office PSR: let's celebrate with a rumble!
