Columbia - LP
US, 1970s
Hard Bop / Post Bop / Modal
One of the best Miles Davis album of this period, recorded in 1965 at a fascinating crossroads for him, as the first album with his so-called Second Great Quintet (Freddie Hubbard, Wayne Shorter, Ron Carter and Tony Williams). The title is at the same time a tribute to the avant-garde jazz label ESP label and at the extra-sensorial perception... Davis asked the musicians not to feel too preoccupated about the harmonic structures of the tracks, encouraging instead what he called "musical telepathy". Or could just have called that extraordinary interplay between the musicians? 1970s US pressing. (VG+/VG+)
