Gescom - Key Nell

Wrongly attributed to Autechre alone, this influential IDM release on Skam is in fact the product of a collective of 20 or so musicians (that indeed includes Autechre's members Sean Booth and Rob Brown, but also Skam founder Andy Maddoks or Russel Haswell) known as Gescom. Seminal for sure, the 4 tracks slowly built in some sort of mutant Kraftwerkian beats. Weird and futuristic in a way that is both cutting-edge and  kind of a retro at the same time, the 4 movements of Key Nell, recall Kool Keith's idiosyncratic beats for his space hip hop masterpiece, Black Elvis / Lost In Space. A seminal and eerie from such a daring time for British electronic music! (VG+/VG+).
