Strange, slippery and abstract numbers, crafted in the heart of the post-rock reactor - mid-1990's Chicago. A (much) lesser-known cousin of Tortoise (Chicago trio Euphone), released on a (much) lesser-known cousin of Thrill Jockey (Hefty Records). Playful acoustic and rhythmically adventurous instrumentals that culminate in that perfectly bittersweet - in a very 1990's alternative way - "New Dusk Policy", the final track on the record. It took me days before I noticed that I've been playing the record at wrong speed (33rpm instead of 45rpm), and it won't surprise anyone to read that it sounded as just as good, if not even better. (VG+/VG+)
