The Durutti Column goes Ibiza: recorded by a solitary Vini Reilly (the band’s drummer Bruce Mitchell plays on one song only, the rest of the drumming being provided by drum machines), in his Manchester studio in the middle of the Acid explosion, Obey The Time departs from the signature washed-out guitar riffs of classic 1980’s DC’s albums, to embrace a genuinely new sound, that of acid house as player on the loud speakers of the Hacienda in the summer of 1990. A balearic product of the time when balearic was just becoming a thing at Café Del Mar, Reilly's sophisticated guitars melodies radiates through computer-generated the techno and dub-like structures of the songs. A true wonder of the Second Summer of Love. A huge favourite of mine and rather hard to find. Incredible artwork by 8pm. (VG+/VG+).
