Folk Rock / Outsider
Sometime before committing a series of brutal murders that'd shock late 1960's America, Charles Manson recorded what would compose his first album, Lie: The Love and Terror Cult. Released shortly after Manson's arrest, not only is Lie a historically-significant early entry in the lo-fi / outsider psychedelic folk canon, but it also contains some genuinely excellent songs, that would strongly influence a large fringe of US counterculture, from Daniel Johnston to Kurt Cobain. Quite a terrifying pop culture artefact, it's nonetheless a great album, arguably better than a lot of Jandeck or D. Johnston's records... Early 1990's pirate version. (VG+/VG+)
