Kelenn - LP
France, 1973
Celtic / Classical Guitar / Psychedelic Acoustic
Absolutely stunning debut album of guitar-led folk by an important member of the Bretonne music revival scene, Bernard Benoît, long-time collaborator of Glenmor and Maripol.
Arguably my favorite album of Bernard Benoit, less proggy than the rest of his solo career (Luc Marianni once called him the "French Mike Oldfield"). Like many records from the early 1970s revival folk scenes - from Brittany or Occitanie - the influence of UK acid folk is quite blatant, and Guitare Celtique recalls the soothing psychedelism of Emmanuelle Parrenin and Miquela as Benoît’s guitar is joined by flutes and percussions. Just a perfect, serene album. Highest recommendation! (VG+/VG+)
